Not Pizza or Lasagna instead Cabbage...Still Patience approved

Doesn't sound very fun does it? For Patience's bread for the day- I made unstuffed cabbage roll soup.

The whole recipe had 1 cup of brown rice. And it was enough to feed 4 people.

I cooked the brown rice, browned the turkey meat along with a chopped onion.

After I cooked those two I added a egg to them. (draining the meat of course)

I chopped up a half of cabbage and sprayed a casserole dish. and just layered cabbage, (uncooked) rice/meat mixture , cabbage.

Then I put a can of tomato on top with half a can of water and 1/4 can of tomato sauce. Mix the whole dish.

Seasoned to taste. Salt/pepper. Baked for 1 hour with lid on and 30 minutes with lid off.

The main reason I serve something like this is Patience nor I need all that pasta/rice. The cabbage

was a fill in. You may think I will never get my kids to eat cabbage- Maybe they won't but there

are many veggies you can use a replacement instead of lot's of pasta. Just season it like your

children's favorite thing to eat.

The photo looks sloppy. But its a nice soup. And not to much to feel guilty about.

Calorie Counting and kids....

Hey that looks like a whole lot of food... Well yea It is a good amount but let me say this it's fine.
The meal is primarily protein and veggies. The meat loaf looks big but it is really thin. The ketchup has no high fructose syrup. And the dressing is home made. That's compare this meal to a Mcdonalds happy meal or a school lunch. - Patience would be starving afterwards if we gave her that!! We just look at the food and think- Is this mostly veggies and good for her. No counting calories. Kids run, play and things do not have to be that hard. I always say '' Patience if I gave you to much, sweetie you don't have to eat it.- Most of the time Happily enough she eats the veggies first.  No bread or dinner roll was included nor potato's. The meat loaf  is Turkey.

How does a parent handle Halloween?

In the beginning of our healthy journey we went trick or treating...However did we just did not  say here is your candy you earned eat all you want...NO Way.

Patience was only 5 years old. I was terrified of her getting diabetes. What we did was say get out five of your favorite pieces of candy. Keep them. And trade the rest  in for a toy.

She was on board. Every since then it's all about the excitement of dressing up not the candy.

Last year we made a Halloween gingerbread house and rented movies. She doesn't feel left out.

She sees recipes for  healthy treat's and says hey momma let's try this it's much more healthy!!

Patience Today

5 years later Patience has kept her weight off.  Her Halloween outfit is size 12/14. I'm so proud of this little girl. She tries so hard.

Patience's Sample Breakfast

Flourless Pancakes, Turkey Bacon, and fruit

Instead of syrup I use something called all natural spreadable fruit. I heat up some and it's just like syrup. We might share a few of the grapes....LOL If she doesn't eat them  all it's fine. I just want to make sure she feels satisfied and ready to start her day. We usually go for a morning walk to the pond after breakfast in the neighborhood.

Patience Approved Meal Homemade Turkey Meatballs with Raw Carrots

Homemade Turkey meatballs with raw carrots

Just turkey, bell pepper, and grated parmesan cheese to hold the meatball together . I made the dressing and the ketchup is all natural. Every Meal doesn't have to be fancy but it can be well liked.

Easy Healthy Simple Pancakes

Eating eggs everyday for Patience can get boring.

So I make her Flourless Pancakes.

2 ingredients
2 eggs, One Banana

Whip up the eggs and banana in the food processor or blender.

Heat the skillet or griddle spray with non stick spray and cook.

No guilt just goodness - Patience approved !!

I usually give her spreadable fruit for the syrup. Or you could even use peanut butter.
These pancakes cook very fast. So don't walk away like I did with my first one.

Breakfast, Yummy and good for you. Oatmeal with Banana

I believe when  I am not eating as healthy as I should I take food for granted. Never in my life has oatmeal ever tasted so good. Just as my son Kaplin says Eat to live, not live to eat.

1 Cup of gluten free oatmeal with a banana No need to add sugar the banana is the perfect sweetness. And of course this is when I start drinking water. I need 8 water bottles daily.

Week 2 For Quickstart Program ( remember this particular plan only needs to be used for 3 weeks) no longer its for rapid weight loss

Breakfast
1 Cup of oatmeal (we use gluten free)
1 orange or banana

Morning snack
Apple

Lunch
4 oz of chicken breast or 4 oz of fish
1/2 cup of steamed tomato and 1 cup of summer squash

2 cups of raw celery
1 Tablespoon of all natural peanut butter

Dinner
 4 oz of fish only
1 cup of asparagus
1 cup of steamed tomato
3 cups of salad

Drinking water is very important!! We drink 8 daily and Patience drinks 3

Just My Thoughts

Last night while watching T.V. a advertisement comes on about Cola. And how Mom's can make effortless meals. I'm all for cooking simple. But you can still have healthy and be simple. Cookpots make many meals.
On the advertisement a family was sitting at the table eating pizza and drinking soda.:(
All I could think was they are eating unhealthy chemicals.

I do not claim to know everything about food but I'm glad we are growing as a family to be more healthy.
